雨 夜 花 Rainy Night Flower (Min-nan/Hokkien)

雨夜花 (閩南/福建語) Rainy Night Flower (Min-nan/Hokkien Dialect) This song is dedicated to melodydamor for her support in interpreting the Min-nan/Hokkien dialect which I am weak at and in helping with the English translations of some of Teresa Teng's songs in this Chinese dialect. To listen in stereo quality http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttAKEw... Probably the most important song in the Min-nan/Hokkien dialect then and now; it was composed in Taiwan in 1933 by two Chinese musicians,作詞:周添旺 作曲:鄧雨賢. The melody of 雨夜花 (Rainy Night Flower) is also the original of the Japanese song "Ameno Yono Hana" which was popular during WWII. It is a sad story of a lady who is unable to locate her former lover and ends up working as a bargirl. It is still the most recognizable Min-nan/Hokkien song in Asia, and probably also in the World. (All lyrics are copyright of their respective owners. Transliterations and translations on this webpage are provided by hkship for educational purposes only. They may not be distributed in printed form or posted/ distributed anywhere else on the Internet.) The Chinese lyrics have been jointly translated into English by melodydamor and hkship There have been several revised versions in its lyrics. Teresa Teng sings the following version. 雨夜花 (台灣民俗樂曲) 作詞:周添旺 作曲:鄧雨賢 雨夜花 雨夜花 受風雨吹落地 Rainy Night Flower got blown to the ground by the rainstorm. 無人看見 每日怨嗟 花謝落土不再回 Nobody witnessed it and she sighed daily, that the blossom was dying on the soil and never to revive. 雨無情 雨無情 無想阮的前程 The rain is ruthless, without consideration of my future 並無看顧 軟弱心性 乎阮前途失光明 Has not safeguarded my fragile temperament, causing my future to lose its brilliance 雨水滴 雨水滴 引阮入受難池 The rain water trickles, luring me into troubled waters. 怎樣乎阮 離葉離枝 永遠無人倘看見 Why did it happen to me, to be separated from the leaves and parted from the twigs, never to be noticed by anyone? 花落土 花落土 有誰人倘看顧 Flower dropped to the ground, is there anyone willing to look after it? 無情風雨 誤阮前途 花蕊若落要如何 The heartless rainstorm has damaged my future. What if the whole blossom dropped off, then what? (The following (furnished by masami43) are the original Japanese lyrics "雨夜花 (南国の花)" sung in Japan many years ago. The original lyrics are different from the lyrics "雨の夜の花" sung by Teresa Teng 雨夜花 (南国の花) 作詞:周添旺 作曲:鄧雨賢 日本歌詞 作者不明 1. 誰も しらない Dare mo shiranai 南の はてに Minami no hateni ながれ ながれて Nagare nagarete 咲く恋 のはな Saku koino hana 2. 女に 生まれた Onna ni umareta 短い いのち Mijikai inochi 知って おくれか Shitte okureka やさしい ひとに Yasashii hitoni
