Electric Bicycle

Back

New electric bicycle for about the cost of gasoline savings over the next year! The top speed is about 25 km/hr. It cost $1500 Canadian and I have added about $400 of extras. Range is about 40 km or more if you pedal alot. It seems fast enough to ride, but 25 km / hr is kinda slow. Today I e-biked about 20 km or so. The route is busy to drive, takes about 1/2 to 1 hour depending on traffic. The e-bike took about 45 minutes and although it is slower you never have to stop for traffic. There is no exhaust, which is one thing I don't like about mopeds in general, there is no smell and the bike is quiet. I wanted to update this video information a little. It is early Sept. 2008 and I now have 2 e-bikes,2 batteries, a 12 and a 13 amp hour, both 36 volt batteries. I can do about 60 to 80 km. with both batteries. I did about 110 km one day along a very flat trail, the Galloping Goose and Lochside Trails on Vancouver Island, so I did pedal alot since my range would have been more like 80 km or so without pedaling. I have discovered that getting the correct sized bike is extremely important, my newest e-bike is more comfortable to me since the frame is slightly bigger and I have installed a handle bar extension. If anyone out there wants to purchase an e-bike that is quality but not too expensive drop me a line at JoeDavis@shaw.ca I found a new supplier with much lower costs and better quality too. If you are local or can make it to Vancouver, B.C. I can arrange to have my friend assemble it from the box. I would recommend that new brakes and a quality back rim are installed giving an excellent day commuter bike. I also added a bike computer to my old e-bike and I do about 600 km per month or so. I ride both bikes presently. You may wonder about rain and ebikes and this model does well in water. I fly around town in the rain and only find that my bike gets really dirty mostly with sand that wears out the brake pads faster. I totally soaked one battery one day by riding in continuous rain for about 10 hours, it went dead; but surprisingly took a charge and worked again the next day after drying out at home. Leave your e-bike in a dry place overnight.
