You have it backward. The radical left in America is too weak to have that kind of impact. In fact, the USA is the only western nation without a major socialist party. Indeed, what made communism so oppressive is because it had the same trappings as religion, and was treated as if it were a religion. Just flip the channels and you'll see how much influence and power the religious right has.

Hello! I'm back! After a week in the wilderness of northern New Hampshire! Bears are soooo cute! "people with modest religious faith are better citizens (on average) than those without faith. I find them to be more tolerant and compassionate than those who are contemptuous of religion." I'm an atheist and my experiences tell me the opposite. But they do generally see theists as weaklings, if not stupid. That I'll admit. Less than 1 half of 1% of prison inmaes are atheists, (Barna).

The religious freaks of today have more in common with the Pharisees in the New Testament.

What ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?! I'm the guy against Doma; talk to Johnr22926.

"I hope to live to see the day..."A cynical smile passed my face.

What part of separation of Church and State do you fail to understand. DOMA and its clones violate the 1st, 5th, and 14th amendments to the Constitution. They are UNCONSTITUTIONAl. Hate based on Religeon is still HATE AND THEREFORE IS UNAMERICAN!!

"Marxism always leads to dictatorships." I'll admit that the only alternative to capitalism is a dictatorship. However, Marx was against social tyranny (like dictatorships). As a matter of fact, the communism of Marx resembles Earth, as depicted in Star Trek in many ways...

What would Jesus do? Hang out with the bum and hooker, not with the religious freaks in charge of the republican party.
FromBoomTown (December 27th, 2008 @ 5:14 pm)
I don't know how you can say anything at all considering the republicans lied to get a war started and then mismanaged it.

No, your point is that the far right doesn't do what it says it wants to do. And it does, state or otherwise. Here is DOMA for you: 1. No state (or other political subdivision within the United States) need treat a relationship between persons of the same sex as a marriage, even if the relationship is considered a marriage in another state. 2. The Federal Government may not treat same-sex relationships as marriages for any purpose, even if concluded or recognized by one of the states.

from: Once again, you've proven my point. Propositions are done by the States...not the federal government. My point was that there has been no legislation at the national level (by the Pres or congress) to ban gay anything. It's a hot-button issue the Reps use to get the Base energized...and then once in power they do nothing but talk. Also IMO, many of the state props are primarily a gut reaction to radical initiatives of the Left. The Left's rhetoric is hateful and they go too far.

Do you know what DOMA is? Do you know what Prop 8 is? 29 states currently bar same-sex marriage. You're completely off; voters vote for those who are sane, not those who profess one thing and do another. If everyone voted this way, then the value of honesty would disappear.
